Construction and Investigation of Hierarchical Mathematical Models for Medium Consisting of Deformable Solid and Fluid Parts (GNSF/ST06/3-035)

Funded by

SRNSFGShota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia

Start Date: 2006-10-01       End Date: 2008-09-30

The aim of the project is mathematical investigation of solid-fluid interaction problems for elastic
multi-structures consisting of parts with different dimensions (3-2-1 dimensional). The integrated
hierarchical models will be constructed. Namely, the mathematical models for multi-structures whose
substructures are elastic and fluid three-dimensional substructures, elastic plates, shells, rods, multilayer
elastic and multilayer fluid substructures will be investigated. In the two- and one-dimensional parts the
hierarchical models constructed by I. Vekua’s dimension reduction method and investigated by project
researchers will be used. The complicated question of transmission conditions between substructures of
different dimensions will be explored. The well-posedness of the corresponding initial boundary value
problems will be investigated and the methods of numerical solution will be elaborated, in particular cases
concrete numerical results will be obtained. Investigating approximate to real situations structures, the
concrete practical recommendations in contact with engineers involved in projecting and constructing of
engineering constructions will be elaborated.
