TICMI ACTIVITIES

January, 1995 - July, 1996

Tbilisi International Centre of Mathematics and Informatics (TICMI) has been founded under the aegis of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Georgia, in January 1995 (see Provisional Statute. Based in the I.Vekua Institute of Applied Mathematics of I.Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (VlAM TSU) it is supported by the Georgian Mathematical Union (GMU) and the European Mathematical Society (EMS).

The aims of TICMI are, first, to help young scientists and recent ph. D.'s in the countries of the Black Sea Basin to improve their professional skills and, second, to promote the exchange of up-to-date scientific informaton worldwide. This will be achieved by Lecture Series and Summer Schools devoted to topics determined by the immediate interests of TICMI.

The work of TICMI is guided by an International Scientific Committee (see List of members of ISC of TICMI).

TICMI works in accordance with its long-term and annual plans (see plans for 1995-1999 and 1996).

TICMI could organize advanced courses and schools at own bases: either at VIAM TSU in Tbilisi or in Kojori (health resort 25 km from Tbilisi), but only after some reconstruction works. At present the Centre has to hire appropriate premises either in Tabakhmela (health resort 10 km from Tbilisi) or in Telavi (190 km from Tbilisi). One of the Advanced Courses of TICMI on Theory of Elasticity (29 October -8 November 1996, Tbilisi, Telavi) was already announced in EMS Newsletter (# 18, December 1995). Lecturers are Prof. G. Hsiao (USA), Prof. W. Wendland (Germany), Prof. D. Gordeziani and D. Natroshvili (Georgia).

The next one on theory of Elastisity will be organizd in September, 1997. There are preliminary consents to be lecturer from Prof. Ph. Ciarlet (France), Prof. G. Jaiani and Prof. T. Vashakmadze (Georgia).
